Tuition and Workshops

I am a qualified Art, Design and Photography Teacher DBS checked.

I offer private tuition to individuals here in my studio at home or at the student's home. Tuition can be tailored to meet individuals needs. Some students just want to expand and develop their knowledge of different processes and skills whilst others may need support on a specific aspect of their course. I am an external moderator for AQA and have an excellent working knowledge of both GCSE and A Level specifications. Private tuition is £25 per hour.

Private Tuition- Areas covered: Drawing, Painting, Photography, Photoshop, Printmaking (mono, collograph, lino, drypoint) Collage and Mixed media.

Workshops

I also offer Workshops to schools and groups at a daily rate of £200 for 6hrs, plus materials. Costs include a previsit if necessary to discuss. Schools and groups can provide their own materials and I am happy to provide a list of materials needed. Workshops can be tailored to suit specific needs and can be designed shorter in some cases, especially for younger children. Maximum group sizes are dependent on the activity and space available but would usually be no more than 20.

Into the Forest (primary)

Inspired by the book Into The Forest, students create a 3D relief layered forest scene populated with animals and birds. Students learn about what is revealed and what is hidden as they design and arrange their scene.

Into the Forest (secondary)

Students will learn the illustrative techniques and processes used in the book. We will use a combination of photography, digital collage and drawing to create a scene that includes animals birds and the natural environment. (Requires access to Photoshop)

Painting, Photography and Photoshop.

This workshop relates to the process I use for much of my work. After an initial briefing students will begin by taking or selecting a photograph to work with. In the second stage the photograph is painted over and/or additional textural and paint effect layers created. Finally the images are combined in Photoshop with the use of masks and blending modes. (Requires access to Photoshop)

Age range: 14-18

Collaged Characters.

In this workshop students design and create their own animal character. After some initial sketching out of ideas, we will use a variety of different prepared painted papers to cut and assemble characters. For older students, there will be a demonstration to show some of the methods that can be used to create effective collage papers. The complexity of ideas and resources can be differentiated depending on age and group.

Age range: 8-14

Printing without presses.

In this workshop students will use printing inks and rollers to create abstract prints using different shapes and textures together with masking out to create a Monoprint. The complexity of layering stages can be differentiated according to age.

Age range 5-12

Printing with a press.

Using a portable printing press, students can explore mark making, stencilling, collography (printing from a collage) or for older students, drypoint etching. More advanced working can also include combinations of methods.
